Jackson resigns from Board of Education

By JOYANNA LOVE/ Managing Editor

Brian Jackson announced his resignation from the Chilton County Board of Education during a voting session on May 19.

Jackson submitted the following statement to The Clanton Advertiser when asked about his resignation.

“After much prayer and consideration, I have turned in my resignation to the Chilton County School System effective 5-31-20. I have enjoyed serving the people of Chilton County, but I feel it is in the best interest of my family and me to step down. Sometimes you can make a bigger difference from the outside. So hopefully, this will be true for me as well. I enjoy serving people and hope to be able to get back into my community and serving people. I would like to thank my Board members, Superintendent and all elected officials for your service to our County. I would like to ask everyone to join me in praying and lifting them up daily. Most of these officials take their jobs extremely seriously and spend valuable time away from their families and could use all of our prayers. I wish nothing but the best for our students, faculties and all other employees. If I can ever help with anything please let me know.”

Chilton County Schools Superintendent Jason Griffin and board President Angie Sanderson both thanked Jackson for serving on the board.

According to Probate Judge Jason Calhoun, this position will most likely be filled by an appointment by Gov. Kay Ivey to serve the rest of the six-year term.

Jackson had been elected to his current term in 2018 and had served as board president for a year.

Also during the May 19 voting session, the Board of Education accepted the resignation of PASS Academy Principal Kelvin Boulware, Jemison High School history teacher Amanda Hope, Technology specialist Jon Sanders and bus driver Greg Moore.

The board hired a lunchroom manager for Clanton Elementary, a special education paraprofessional for Isabella High School, a secretary for Verbena High School, five teachers for Clanton Elementary, one teacher for Clanton Intermediate, a P.E. teacher for Chilton County High School, preschool teacher for Jemison Elementary, science teacher for Maplesville and a psychometrist for Central Office.
